ASHLAND – The Superior Reds bounced back from an embarrassing 14-4 loss in five innings to the Ashland Lakers with a 10-8 come-from-behind victory in game two of the doubleheader Tuesday night in Ashland.

The Reds managed just four hits off Laker pitching in the opener, singles by Taylor Olson, Clayton Yeazle, Jarrett Byrnes and Jordan Hughes.

All four of Superior’s came with Ashland already leading 14-0 in the fifth inning.

Tyler Long and Colton Yepma pitched for the Reds.

The Reds led 3-2 after five innings in game two before Ashland scored six runs in the sixth inning for an 8-3 lead.

The Reds tied it up with a five-run seventh inning and then won the game with two more runs in the top of the eighth inning.

Ryan Myhre picked up the win after throwing two scoreless innings in relief of Yeazle, who started on the mound for the Reds.

The Reds had nine hits, including two each from Long and Yeazle. Nik Mattson and Zach Magdzas added doubles and Jordan Hughes, Trent Olson and Myhre singled.

Superior’s first run came in the third inning when Mattson walked and eventually scored when Hughes was walked with the bases loaded.

The Reds took a 3-2 lead in the fifth when Hughes singled and scored on an error and Sam Schiff was hit by a pitch and scored on Yeazle’s sac fly.

In the Reds’ five-run seventh inning, Trent Olson was hit by a pitch and scored on Magdzas’ double. Myhre then singled home a run before Long and Taylor Olson walked with the bases loaded and Hughes plated a run with a sac fly.

Superior’s go-ahead and winning runs came in the eighth inning. After Magdzas was hit by a pitch and Yeazle singled, the two moved up on a wild pitch. Both runners scored on errors after Myhre’s bunt attempt was caught for an out, but the Ashland player over threw third base trying for the double play. In the process, Yeazle scored the winning run when another Ashland player was called for interference.

Myhre retired the side in order in the bottom of the eighth inning to complete the win.

Superior plays at Grand Rapids at 6 p.m. today (Wednesday).
