A Douglas County jury found Jon Michael Papineau, 27, guilty of two counts delivery of meth following an April trial in Douglas County Circuit Court. Last week, Judge George Glonek sentenced him to four years of probation and nine months in jail.
Other conditions include that Papineau undergo a chemical dependency evaluation and follow any recommendations, that he not use or possess any controlled substances and that he pay $2,750 restitution.
As added incentive, Glonek left a five-year sentence — two years of initial confinement and three years of extended supervision — hanging over Papineau’s head. If his probation is revoked, the Superior man would serve that sentence without having to return to court.
Papineau sold 18 grams of meth to an informant during a pair of police-monitored drug buys in Superior in April 2011, according to the criminal complaint.
Glonek considered a number of factors before handing down the sentence, including Papineau’s prior record, his family support system and that he expressed remorse. The Superior man has been on probation three times before, according to court records, and successfully completed probation two of those times.
