The Superior Reds improved to 5-2 on the season with a 15-8 win over Duluth Lakeview Thursday evening at Duluth East High School (Ordean Field).
Nik Mattson was the winning pitcher with an inning of relief help each from Ryan Myhre and Dylan Ramage.
In five innings Mattson allowed seven hits with five strikeouts and nine walks. Over the final two innings Myhre and Ramage gave up two hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
Darin Zwak took the loss for Lakeview.
Superior had 12 hits, led by Ramage, who was 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Spencer Koskie added a two-run double and two-run single; Ryan Myhre had two hits and three RBIs; Taylor Olson had a hit and two RBIs; Sam Schiff had a hit and one RBI; Trent Olson doubled and singled; Clayton Yeazle doubled; and Zach Magdzas had an RBI.
Brody Olson and Branovan had two hits apiece for Lakeview.
The Reds will now play seven games in the next four days, starting with home doubleheaders against Virginia on Saturday and Eau Claire Sunday. Action begins at 1 p.m. both days.
Superior will then play two games at Ashland on Monday and at Grand Rapids on Tuesday.
NOTES: The Lakeview Tournament is June 29-30 throughout the Twin Ports. The Reds, who finished in second place last year, host games at 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Friday. … Monday’s twin bill at Ashland begins at 6 p.m.
