More road closures
Shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday the Nemadji River in Superior flowed over Woodlawn Drive, forcing its closure. Traffic is down to one lane in each direction over the Nemadji on U.S. Highway 2/53. Expect delays. The DTA Route 16 is only running to 31st Avenue East until traffic eases.
Mike Ostrenga with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation said concrete barriers were erected at 31st Avenue East on East Second Street in an effort to keep the Nemadji from washing over the road in that area like it did during flooding last year. He said there will also be lane restrictions on East Second Street near Belknap Street, rather than detouring traffic back to Highway 35 to go around the flooded roads near Barker’s Island.
State Highway 13 east of County Highway F impassable. According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the highway will be closed for two to three weeks because of a culvert wash-out.
