St. Norbert and St. Scholastica men's hockey teams to join MCHA

The official announcement is expected to be made at a press conference Tuesday afternoon on the St. Norbert campus.

The St. Norbert Green Knights and College of College St. Scholastica Saints men’s hockey teams will be joining the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association beginning with the 2013-14 season, according to sources.

The MCHA has said a news conference has been set today for the Bemis International Center on the St. Norbert campus, which will be attended by league commissioner G. Steven Larson.

The MCHA offices are in Waukesha, Wis.

The St. Norbert and St. Scholastica men’s and women’s hockey teams left searching for a conference when UW-Superior, UW-Stout, UW-Stevens Point, UW-River Falls and UW-Eau Claire announced they would depart the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association after 2012-13 to form the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for men’s and women’s hockey.

Current members of the MCHA are: Adrian (Mich.) College, Concordia of Mequon, Wis., Finlandia of Hancock, Mich.; Lake Forest (Ill.) College; Lawrence University of Appleton, Wis.; Marian of Fond du Lac, Wis.; Milwaukee School of Engineering; and Northland College of Ashland.

The MCHA began in 1998-99 and has its 15th season in 2012-13.

Last season in the NCHA, St. Norbert won the regular-season title and St. Scholastica was second.
