A tip led to the arrest of two men and the discovery of nearly $40,000 worth of heroin in Superior on Tuesday afternoon after police received a tip two Superior men were in possession of a large amount of heroin and two handguns at an address in Superior, according to a news release by Superior Investigations Capt. Nick Alexander.
Investigators from the Lake Superior Drug & Violent Crimes Task Force and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation, which led to the discovery that two men, Leroy Leneer Calvin, 28, and Demetrius Vershaun Bowen, 21, had just been arrested on similar charges in Duluth earlier this month.
Information was developed and the two were stopped in a vehicle near a residence on the 1700 block of Hughitt Avenue. Further investigation led to the discovery of a duffle bag containing a large quantity of heroin packaged for street sale and two loaded handguns. The heroin weighed nearly 4 ounces, with an estimated value of nearly $40,000.
Both Calvin and Bowen are being held in the Douglas County Jail.
