A tip led to the arrest of two men and the discovery of nearly $40,000 worth of heroin in Superior Tuesday afternoon.

On Tuesday morning, narcotics investigators from the Superior Police Department received information that two Superior men were in possession of a large amount of heroin and two handguns at an address in Superior, according to a news release by Investigations Capt. Nick Alexander with the Superior Police Department. Investigators from the Lake Superior Drug & Violent Crimes Task Force and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office began assisting in the investigation.

It was soon discovered that the two men, Leroy Leneer Calvin, 28, and 21-year-old Demetrius Vershaun Bowen, had just been arrested on similar charges in Duluth earlier this month.

Information was developed through the morning and into early afternoon and the two were stopped in a vehicle near a residence on the 1700 block of Hughitt Ave. Further investigation led to the discovery of a duffle bag containing a large quantity of heroin packaged for street sale as well as two loaded handguns. The heroin weighed nearly 4 ounces, with an estimated street value of nearly $40,000.

Both Calvin and Bowen are being held in the Douglas County Jail. Calvin was charged with possession with intent to deliver heroin and felon in possession of a firearm. Bowen is being held on a probation violation.
