LETTER: Walker recall wasn’t justified

This recall election was an assault on our electoral process. Scott Walker had done nothing illegal or immoral. He had done nothing to warrant a recall. In his fall campaign, he laid out principles and processes that he felt needed to be done to correct our state’s economy. Once in office, he did what he said. He kept his campaign promises to reform our budget.

The recall was the result of some union bosses who were not happy with how the people of Wisconsin voted. Instead of accepting the people’s vote and mandate for Gov. Walker, they wanted us to keep voting until they finally got their way. That is not the way the democratic process is supposed to be.

Many people who opposed Walker also oppose big businesses like oil companies or Wall Street. They stand against the millions made by these companies and oppose the lobbying efforts these companies make. But, I ask “What about big unions?” They are no different. They milk millions from their members. They pay their CEO’s huge salaries and benefits. They tell their members what to think and how to vote. And they bully their way into the legislative process.

I am proud the majority of the people of Wisconsin united in standing up to the big union bosses. We let them know that they could not usurp our elections, that our votes could not be bought, that our state is not for sale, and that they can no longer drain our budget. Like a frivolous lawsuit, I think the unions and Democratic Party should reimburse Wisconsin for the millions the recall cost us.

And I urge our legislature to pass laws with stringent recall guidelines. Scott Walker has once again earned the right to be governor. He deserves our respect and support as he moves Wisconsin forward.
