Learn skills to be a hero
No need to fret if you weren’t born with x-ray vision or super-human strength; you can still train to be a hero by learning the lifesaving skills of hands-only CPR. No need to fret if you weren’t born with x-ray vision or super-human strength; you can still train to be a hero by learning the lifesaving skills of hands-only CPR. The American Heart Association, the YMCA and Essentia Health will offer free hands-only CPR training at Miller Hill Mall 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.
“Anyone can learn CPR – and everyone should. Sadly, 70 percent of Americans may feel helpless to act during a cardiac emergency because they either do not know how to administer CPR or their training has significantly lapsed,” said Ron Siebert, director of Essentia Health’s Heart & Vascular Center. “This alarming statistic could hit close to home, because home is exactly where 80 percent of cardiac arrests occur. Put very simply: The life you save with CPR is mostly likely to be someone you love.”
This June, in honor of National CPR Week, the American Heart Association is calling on all Americans to learn how to give Hands-Only CPR. Reservations are not necessary for individuals or small groups to participate. The training will take 15-20 minutes and will be ongoing from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. near Barnes and Noble. Call 218-213-5104 for more information or to RSVP for your large group.
People who want to learn this lifesaving skill but are unable to make it to the mall on June 8 can learn hands-only CPR skills by watching a simple one-minute video at heart.org/handsonlycpr.
