The Healthier Douglas County Coalition is applying for a grant from Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to focus on addressing the national obesity epidemic on the local level with environmental policy changes.
The overall objective of the grant is to grow the Farm to School program and increase the number of community and school gardens in both Douglas County and Superior. Another component of the grant would be to work on joint use agreements with the Superior School District to open the school gymnasiums and other spaces to physical activity outside of the school day and school calendar.
One component of the application is to have people vote for the proposal online. Votes can be made online at Transformwi.com. Check on the sign up tab in the right hand corner of the screen, fill out the register screen with your email, password and name. Once you have registered, click on more applications to find and vote for Healthier Douglas County and Creating a Healthier Doug.
Residents can vote for the applications through June 15.
