Superior man faces sex assault charges

A man accused of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl made an initial appearance in Douglas County Circuit Court on Thursday.

A man accused of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl made an initial appearance in Douglas County Circuit Court on Thursday.

Justin Cheever, 21, of Superior faces three counts felony first-degree sexual assault-contact with a child under age 13 and one count felony first-degree sexual assault of a child under age 12.

According to the criminal complaint:

Cheever is accused of assaulting the girl four times at a Poplar residence. Each of the incidents occurred when the child was sleeping. She would wake up to find her pants down and a man lying behind her rubbing himself on her.

The man ran out each time when she woke and turned around. The girl would find wet stuff on her back following the incident. The fourth time such an incident occurred, the lights were on in the room and the child recognized Cheever.

During one of the incidents, Cheever is accused of touching the girl’s genitals. During another, he is accused of having sexual intercourse with the child. At the time of the incidents, Cheever was 19 years old; the child was 10.

Cheever was released after posting a $2,000 cash bond with the condition he have no contact with the victim. A preliminary hearing is slated for next week.
