Teen accused in Shooter’s burglary faces arraignment

A Superior man accused of stealing 15 handguns from Superior Shooters Supply in Superior was bound over for arraignment Wednesday after he waived his preliminary hearing in Douglas County Circuit Court.
Cody James Johnson, 19, faces one felony count of burglary, arming self with a dangerous weapon, stemming from a burglary at Superior Shooters Supply reported May 9.
According to the criminal complaint:
It appeared someone gained access to Shooter’s Supply from the building next door. An anonymous tip about possible copper wire scrapping in the area led to an attempt to locate Johnson. Detective Mike Jaszczak got in touch with Johnson’s mother numerous times about his whereabouts.
On May 14, she told him that she spoke to her son and he confessed to her that he had done the burglary.
Cash bail was set at $5,000 in the case, with conditions he have no contact with Superior Shooter’s Supply and doesn’t possess or use any dangerous weapons.
The Superior Police Department is following leads that could lead to recovery of some of the stolen weapons, according to Superior Police Capt. Nick Alexander.
“That’s something we are actively pursuing now,” he said.
