Youth Baseball Roundup - May 30

Action continued in the Superior Cal Ripken youth baseball league with the Blue Jays, Brewers and Mariners notching wins. All action on May 24 was rained out.

Blue Jays 12, Cardinals 2

Ben Rhodes was the winning pitcher and doubled to lead the Blue Jays past the Cardinals. Alex Dennis also tripled for the winners, who are now 3-0 on the season.

Caelan Wick doubled for the Cardinals, who fall to 0-3.

Brewers 11, Red Sox 1

Justin Earnest was the winning pitcher and stroked two hits to lead the Brewers past the Red Sox.

Also for the Brewers (2-1), Isaac Rios, Dominic D’Auria and Kyle Nickila all tripled and singled and Drew DeBruyne singled twice.

Aaron Hanson doubled and Hunter Paine, Austin Willoughby and Alex Nikstad singled for the Red Sox (0-2-1).

Willoughby, Keagan Rice and Max Curtis shared mound duties for the Red Sox.

Mariners 7, Cubs 2

Winning pitcher Josh Smith combined with Caden Welch, Elijah Owens, Brandon Wing and Gunnar Johnson to strike out 10 batters.

At the plate for the Mariners (2-0-1), Johnson doubled, singled, had two RBIs and scored two runs; Oscar Flaherty singled twice, knocked in a run and scored another; Wing singled twice and knocked in one run; Bryce Connolly singled twice and knocked in two runs; and Welch, Smith, Owens and Keelan Golat added a single apiece.

Brad Renand, Steve Gee and Terrick Swanson all singled and Justice Johnson made two outstanding catches in centerfield for the Cubs, now 1-2 on the season.
