LETTER: Recall Walker to preserve liberty

The life or death of American democracy has reached its critical point here in Wisconsin.

What we do on June 5 will determine whether our beloved nation, which has weathered world war, civil war, depression and strife, will continue to live as an example to the world for government of, by and for the people. Or will it die under the oppression of a new kind of fascism that crawled unseen from the ashes of Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy.

Nearly every political pundit one hears is saying that, as Wisconsin goes, so goes the nation.

That’s why Scott Walker’s fat cat friends (mostly from out of state) have already poured $25 million into his campaign, to bombard Wisconsin voters with lies and innuendo. Who are these fat cats? Well, the two most visible out front are the infamous New York billionaire Koch brothers. I urge everyone to go to this website and read an article by artist and author Damien Crisp titled, “Report: The Kochs, A Nazi Past, Oil & The Foundation of the Right,” http://unknownjournal.wordpress.com/2010/10/06. It traces their ancestry back to the rise of Nazi Germany. But, Walker has more billionaire CEOs standing in the shadows and doling out dollars for deceiving Wisconsin voters.

Bankrolled by these and others, fascist Republican politicians are methodically dismantling our beloved Constitution, piece by piece.

Our most basic inalienable right is that of voting. Who, no matter how they try to spin it, is making it harder for poor people to vote, in state after state? Republicans.

Who has gutted public education over the last two-plus decades? Republicans. Why? Because an ignorant populace is much easier to control with lies.

And most blatantly, who has invalidated legal local elections, effectively deposing mayors and city councils, and set up local dictators to rule over their fiefdoms without regard to the people’s wishes? Let’s see, fascist Republican Gov. Rick Snyder of Michigan. This is what’s in store for Wisconsin, should these CEOs retain their chokehold on Wisconsin, through their puppet governor, Walker.

The pattern throughout our nation is clear. A vast network of corporate CEOs is trying to do with money and lies what the Fascists of Italy and Nazis of Germany could not do with guns and tanks: Conquer and rule the greatest nation on earth, and it’s working. Is that what our Greatest Generation fought and died for in World War II?

What will voters now, of this generation, tell our fathers, mothers, grandfathers, grandmothers, aunts and uncles who sacrificed so much to protect us from fascism, when we pass on?

“Sorry, we were too busy watching reality shows and playing golf to pay attention to our liberty.”

Are we to tell them that all their pain and suffering was for nothing?

I want to be able to say that I at least tried. I did what I could and fought the good fight. That fight begins here and now, in Wisconsin, with the recall of Scott Walker.
