LETTER: Don’t buy GOP, governor’s lies

To the Telegram:

Wow, Republicans are really out on a limb on the jobs question.

I’ve gotten about five or maybe six pieces of glossy mail recently from the Walker campaign, or from surrogate groups who support him. Each of them touts the rosy jobs picture in Wisconsin. I even see some signage supporting Walker around the Douglas County fairgrounds that says something rather vague about job growth in Wisconsin. Most explicitly, Scott Walker has been seen in ads down south saying Wisconsin has gained 20,000 jobs since he took office.

The spooky part of all this is that all of this is 100 percent hokum. Bull-pucky. Hogwash. Malarkey. Pick your adjective. It’s all false.

How a guy has the nerve to lie so brazenly is beyond me!

Luckily for all of us, we know better because we read the Telegram. There was recently (May 17th) an article in the paper confirming another 5,900 jobs lost in April in Wisconsin. For the record, that’s nearly 34,000 total jobs lost in 2011. The Bureau of Labor Statistics noted that Wisconsin led the entire nation in job losses, and that 47 other states experienced job growth over the same period.

Well, at least we’re still No. 1 in something, right?

Apparently, the GOP is testing the theory that if you repeat an egregious lie often enough, people will believe it to be true. I hope that isn’t the case.

But everyone should be suspicious of a politician who doesn’t trust voters with the truth. Wisconsinites deserve far better than Walker and his lies.
