A Superior man accused of stealing 15 handguns from Superior Shooters Supply in Superior made an initial appearance in Douglas County Circuit Court this week.
Cody James Johnson, 19, faces one felony count of burglary-arming self with a dangerous weapon.
According to the criminal complaint: A burglary at Superior Shooters Supply involving stolen handguns was reported on May 9.
Superior police found evidence that suggested how the suspects entered the building from the Boss Electric building next door.
An officer received an anonymous tip from someone who said Johnson and two others may have been scrapping copper wire out of the condemned building next to Superior Shooters Supply and figured they could get into the store.
Superior Police Detective Mike Jaszczak got in touch with Johnson’s mother multiple times about his whereabouts. On May 14, she told him that she spoke to her son and he confessed to her that he had done the burglary by himself.
Cash bail was set at $5,000 in the case, with conditions of no contact with Superior Shooters Supply and that Johnson not possess or use any dangerous weapons. Johnson remained in custody at the Douglas County Jail as of Thursday. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
