NHS girls win regional title; Tigers win 11 events

The Northwestern High School girls track team finished first and the boys were second at Monday’s WIAA Division 2 regional at Frederic.

The Tiger girls had five conference champions. Tess Nelson won the 100 and 300 hurdles; Jordan Johnson won the 800 and 1,600; and Logan Holy won the pole vault.

Also advancing out of regionals for Northwestern were: Lynsey Anttila, second in the 100 and 300 hurdles; Ellie Teige, second in 3,200; Carmon Ormston, third in 3,200; Kelly Erkkila, second in pole vault; and the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 relays, which all finished second.

Anttila, Michaela Ruhman, Ally May and Logan Holly make up the 800 relay; Johnson, May, Nelson and Ruhman are on the 1,600 relay; and Angela Snow, Teige, Ormston and Olivia Amber, are on the 3,200 relay.

NHS boys regional champs are: Mike Naumann, 300 hurdles; Devin Holly, pole vault; Ryan Lind, 800; and the 400, 800 and 1,600 relays.

Duncan Magerl, Alex Reynolds, Mike Parkins and Zak Anttila are on the 400 relay; Anttila, Reynolds, Parkins and Naumann are on the 800 relay; and Jacob Stai, Parkins, Lind and Mason Lombard comprise of the 1,600 relay.

Other NHS boys finishing among the top four and advancing to the sectional meet are Travis Sznaider, third in the 3,200; Trevor Guenard, fourth in the pole vault; Lombard, second in the 800; and the 3,200 relay of Lombard, Lind, Sznaider and Kyle Ratio, who finished second.

The WIAA Division 2 sectional meet is at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Medford. The top four finishers in each meet advance to next weekend’s state meet in La Crosse.
