The Cal Ripken Baseball League kicked off its season with the Blue Jays jumping out to a 2-0 start.
Blue Jays 12, Cubs 2
Michael LaJoie struck out six batters in a winning effort on the mound for the Blue Jays. Max Plunkett led the winners at the play by going 3-for-3 with two home runs.
Steve Gee struck out eight batters in a losing effort for the Cubs.
Red Sox 9, M’s 9
The Red Sox took a 9-3 lead before the Mariners fought back to tie the game at 9-9.
Brandon Wing pitched three shutout innings with seven strikeouts for the Mariners.
Leading the way at the plate were Caden Welch with a home run, single and three RBIs; Oscar Flaherty, 3-for-3 with two RBIs; and Bryce Conolly, 2-for-3.
Aaron Hansen triples, singled and knocked in two runs for the Red Sox.
Austin Willoughby also tripled and pitched three innings with six strikeouts.
Brewers 12, Cardinals 8
Isaac Rios was the winning pitcher with help from Justin Earnest, Austin McClure and Ryan Hughes.
Dominic D’Auria led the Brewers with a grand slam and single. Eric Elonen added two singles and Rios, Earnest and Dayton Podvin had a hit apiece.
Mason Moen doubled twice for the Cardinals. Steven Nett added two singles and Reed Rehnstrand and David Fender singled once.
Cubs 4, Cardinals 3
Gabe Beeksma struck out 12 and walked one in five innings to pick up the win for the Cubs. Kyler Frias pitched the sixth inning, allowing two runs with a walk.
Steve Gee led the winners with a home run and three RBIs. Judd Erickson was 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and Michael Urbinak and Terrick Swanson each singled.
The Cardinals got a home run (over the fence) and two doubles from Moen, two singles from Rehnstrand and one single from Kain Walberg.
Blue Jays 13, Red Sox 2
Conner Fonger was the winning pitcher for the Blue Jays, who got two hits and two RBIs from Willem McClellan and a hit and RBI apiece from Alex Dennis and Anthony Anderson.
No data was available for the Red Sox.
Mariners def. Brewers
Brandon Wing struck out five batters in two innings to pick up the win for the Blue Jays.
Gunner Johnson homered, singled and drove in three runs to lead the Jays. Elijah Owens added a triple and the Mariners pulled off a double play to end a Brewers’ rally in the third inning.
Rios had the only hit for the Brewers and D’Auria fanned six batters in three innings.
The game was called early due to lightning.
