STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Penn State's first season in Division I hockey will feature six games against NCAA tournament teams and four matchups with future Big Ten opponents Michigan State and Wisconsin.
The Nittany Lions open Oct. 12 at home against American International. They'll play for a year as a Division I independent before moving to the new Big Ten hockey conference in 2013.
The Nittany Lions will play the Spartans and Badgers on the road, including the regular-season finale Feb. 25 at Wisconsin.
Penn State will also play regular-season games in Wilkes-Barre, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Rochester, N.Y.
Buffalo Sabres owner Terry Pegula, who donated $102 million to help fund Penn State's hockey program, owns the minor-league franchise in Rochester.
