The Superior Senior High School and Northwestern Tigers baseball teams split a doubleheader. The Tigers took the first game 5-1 behind the hitting of brothers Don and Frank Olson, who each had two of their team’s six hits, and the one-hit pitching performance of Cal Ruska, who allowed only a solo home run by Spartan Dennis Mertzig. The Spartans bounced back in the second game, smashing 10 hits — the big one a single by Jay Viggiano — to drive in the winning run in a 6-5 game. (1967)
