Rob Johnson has spent the past 16½ years being part of the Superior Basketball Association in many different positions. He has been a coach for the boys and girls’ teams, a board member, treasurer and president of the league.
I remember nine years ago meeting Rob for the first time at a SBA meeting and it was evident that he was involved for the right reasons. It wasn’t because of selfishness because his kids were involved. It wasn’t because he wanted the glory of his name out there and it surely wasn’t because of the money he would make doing it. It was because he wanted fairness and equality for both the boys and girls basketball programs.
His vision was to give every kid in Superior the opportunity to be part of a team, to build self-esteem in them and to teach them life lessons that would help them through their entire lives. His vision was to find the best people for the SBA board, to find the best-qualified coaches to coach the teams and to help run the SBA for one reason, (the kids).
In nine years, I never heard Rob use the words I or me, it was always we or us. He was always open to suggestions, he always handled himself professionally, he modeled what he preached and he is a man of his word.
His leadership and knowledge will be missed sincerely, and I write this for him out of the deepest respect and gratitude for everything he has done for our youth in this community, our Superior Basketball Association and our school district as well.
Dave Kontny,
teacher and head boys basketball coach at Superior High School.
