ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A 27-year-old man is in critical condition after hitting a tree while fleeing a state patrol trooper in St. Paul.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports a trooper tried to pull over a sports utility vehicle at about 12:20 a.m. Saturday on an Interstate 94 ramp. But the Maplewood man drove away and turned off his lights.
The state patrol says a trooper pursued, turned a corner and found the vehicle had hit a tree.
The driver was not wearing a seat belt and his air bag did not deploy. The state patrol says alcohol was not involved.
The man, who has not been identified, was taken to a local hospital where he was in critical condition Saturday.
