The Superior High School softball team won its fourth straight game with a 14-0, 5-inning win over Duluth Marshall Thursday evening at Liebaert Field.

The Spartans, 6-4 overall and 3-1 in the Lake Superior Conference, put the game away early with a 10-run first inning. They added one run to their total in the third inning and three more in the fourth.

Marshall (0-12, 0-3) made things interesting as Signe Braafladt and Gabby Nordman started the game with singles. Spartan starting pitcher Taylor Thompson then retired the next three batters to get out of the jam.

Marshall’s Laurel Eyer singled to start the second inning, but again Thompson regroup and this time struck out the next three batters. She also retired the Hilltoppers in order in the third inning before giving way to Courtney Oak, who retired the side in order in the fourth and fifth innings.

Superior had 16 hits, including three each from Emily Hansen, Taylor Johnson and Taylor Thompson. Jessica Lindstrom added two hits and Kaitlyn Mergen, Tailor Schuster, Kari Miller, Ari Jago, Oak and Rachal Fregin had one each.

Hansen, Mergen, Miller and Fregin each knocked in two runs and Thompson, Johnson and Jago had one RBI apiece.

The Spartans play two games at 4 p.m. today at Hibbing, then host Grand Rapids for two games at 4 p.m. Monday and Denfeld at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
