‘Hollywood Heroes’ features Academy Award-winning John Wayne flick

The Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center hosts “Hollywood’s Heroes” featuring the film “The Longest Day” starring John Wayne.

The Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center hosts “Hollywood’s Heroes” featuring the film “The Longest Day” starring John Wayne.

The film will be shown in the Pearl Harbor Theatre at 1 p.m. Tuesday. The film and popcorn are free.

“The Longest Day” was released in 1962 and is based on the Cornelius Ryan book of the same name, which chronicles the story of the Normandy Invasion, the famous ‘D-Day’ landings that began the liberation of the European mainland in 1944. The book and film are notable for telling the story of the invasion from both the Allied and Axis perspectives.

Besides John Wayne, the movie is noted for its large ensemble cast of well-known actors including Kenneth More, Richard Burton, Robert Mitchum, Sean Connery, Henry Fonda, Red Buttons, Peter Lawford, Robert Wagner and Curt Jurgens.
