Fisherman found dead in Chippewa County pond

COLBURN, Wis. (AP) — A Boyd man who planned to go fishing with his dog has been found dead in a Chippewa County pond.

The Chippewa Herald reports that 76-year-old Wayne M. Duce was found dead in the pond in Colburn about 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Chippewa County Undersheriff Gene Gutsch says Duce had loaded a canoe with minnows and equipment. Gutsch says it was unclear whether Duce ever got in the canoe, and he may have had a medical issue.

A nearby homeowner saw Duce's dog and went to the pond, where Duce was found.

Gutsch says authorities are waiting for autopsy results to determine the cause of death.
