Man sentenced to 6 ½ years in cliff death

ASHLAND, Wis. (AP) — An Ashland man convicted of killing a teenager by pushing him over a cliff along Lake Superior has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison.

Twenty-three-year-old Cass Corbine pleaded no contest to felony murder in the death of 18-year-old Marvin Charette III. A reckless homicide charge was dropped.

Bayfield County prosecutors say Corbine and Charette were involved in a confrontation at the edge of the cliff after leaving a party on the Red Cliff Indian Reservation in July 2010. Corbine says he pushed Charette to get him out of his face and he fell backward, over the cliff and into Lake Superior.

WDIO-TV says Corbine was also sentenced to five years of extended supervision.
