The Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center honors more than 50 volunteers who contribute their time and talent to the center.
The center hosts the special recognition event 2-3 p.m. Thursday. Rob Calhoon and members of the Superior High School choir present musical selections for the volunteers.
“More than 50 women and men currently volunteer at the center,” said Donna O’Kash, volunteer coordinator for the historical center. “Our volunteers range from teenagers to those in their 90s.
Two of our volunteers fought in WWII and several were in the Korean Conflict. We also have children and several grandchildren of American veterans, as well as history and museum buffs.”
She said in the past year, volunteers have logged more than 6,000 hours to greet visitors, answer questions, lead tours, work with our curator, staff the gift shop, present programs in the community and more.
All current and past volunteers are welcome to attend.
To learn more or to sign up as a volunteer call the center at (715) 392-7151 or visit www.bvhcenter.org.
