Local college students gained important lessons about what to expect after graduation at Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College-Superior’s annual “Let’s Get to Work” Day on April 11.
“Let’s Get to Work” Day was developed to assist students in job seeking and keeping skills. Nearly 40 area employers and business owners attended the job fair providing students with information regarding opportunities available to them.
In addition, activities offered included identifying strengths as related to career, how to dress for an interview on a shoe string budget, how to write a resume, interview skills, tips on how to find a job and how to advance in their careers.
“This is an exciting event for our students that helps prepare them for their future,” said Kristin Vesel, WITC-Superior dean of students. “Our students are able to make connections with business and industry, plus enhance their skills so they feel confident and knowledgeable when head out into the workforce. “
New this year was a “professional dress closet” at which students could select free clothing suitable for the workplace. The clothes were donated by WITC staff.
An annual highlight of the day was the Dirt Cheap Fashion Show featuring WITC students showcasing appropriate and current professional attire on a budget. Each participating student was given a maximum budget of $20 to coordinate an outfit at area Goodwill stores.
