The UW-Superior baseball team slammed 14 hits, including five home runs, but dropped a decision to the UW-La Crosse Indians. UWLC matched the Yellowjackets homer for homer and piled up 16 hits in a more timely fashion to get a 22-11 win. Jim Jago hit two of the UWS homers. The other Superior round-trippers came off the bats of Steve Jano, Mike Sather and Bruce Krensing. The loss left the Yellowjackets with a 3-11 Wisconsin State University conference record. (1977)
Tim Heikkila won three events and placed second in a fourth as the Superior Senior High School Spartans finished third in the Cloquet Invitational Track Meet. Heikkila nearly was a one-man show for the Spartans, breaking the meet record with a high jump of 6-feet, 3-inches. He also won the high and low hurdles competitions and place second in the long jump. Dave Byrka was the only other Spartans to take a first, topping the field in the discus event. (1967)
