Dorothy Hintz, 98, of Janesville, Wis., died Friday, April 27, 2012, in Cedar Crest Health Care Center.
She was born Aug. 22, 1913, in Foxboro, Wis. the daughter of Otto B. and Emma (Sponholz) Schmidt. Dorothy was a graduate of Wheaton College. She married George B. Hintz on June 25, 1949, in Bellevue, Iowa. He predeceased her on Nov. 13, 1987.
Dorothy was employed as a teacher for Douglas County Country Schools for nine years where she initially taught in one room school houses, Prairie du Sac for four years, and California Christian Schools for two years. She also taught at Beloit Junior High School for 24 years and was a counselor at Aldrich Junior High School, retiring in 1978. She was a member of the Beloit Area Educators Association, Beloit Retired Teacher's Association and the Pioneers Club. Dorothy spent a summer in Alaska helping Indian children. She was a member of Sun Valley Presbyterian Church and was the former elder and deacon and taught Sunday school.
Survivors include nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, and sister, Pearl Stone.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service Tuesday, May 1, 2012, in the Chapel at Cedar Crest Health Care Center, 1700 S. River Road, Janesville, Wis., with Rev. Dave Ewing and Reverend Ian Stirrat officiating. Inurnment will be in Bellevue Presbyterian Cemetery, Bellevue, Iowa at a later date. Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements.
Memorials may be given in her name to Sun Valley Presbyterian Church.
