Superior: Big Apple Bagels holds its National Bagel Sale event today and Saturday. For these two days only, customers can purchase bagels for only 49 cents. The National Bagel Sale will also serve as the kickoff event for Big Apple Bagels’ Great Strides® campaign for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Big Apple Bagel is at 1224 Belknap St.

Superior: The Friends of Superior Public Library will hold their annual spring book sale at the library, 1530 Tower Ave., from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thousands of gently used hardcover and paperback books, fiction and non-fiction, for children and adults. All proceeds are used to purchase new library materials

Superior: The annual Girls Just Wanna’ Have Fun shop hop takes place at six small businesses from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Saturday. Visitors can enjoy in-store specials and refreshments and sign up for door prizes. The shops taking part in the event include Antiques on Belknap, 1709 Belknap St., Art in the Alley in the Trade & Commerce Marketplace, Kate by Courtney & Leigh, 10 N. 21st St., Peachie’s Stained Glass, 5904 Tower Ave., Sara Bella of Superior, 1613 Tower Ave. and Wine Beginnings, 1705 Tower Ave.

Duluth: The Lake Superior Singles will meet at 6:30 p.m. Enjoy each other’s company over dinner at Perkins in the Miller Hill Mall area. No need to register.

Superior: University Theatre presents “Panic” by Joseph Goodrich at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday in Manion Theater in Holden Fine and Applied Arts Center. Saturday

Duluth: The Famous Faith Lutheran Church Rummage Sale takes place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, 1814 N. 51st Ave. E. The sale will feature clothing, furniture, outdoor items, books, movies, household items, children’s clothes and toys, bakery goods for sale, a plant sale and food for purchase. Free and open to the public.

Duluth: The March for Babies, a fundraiser for the March of Dimes, takes place at the DECC, 350 Harbor Drive. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and the three-mile walk begins at 10 a.m. Anyone can walk. If you have not raised funds in advance, a minimum $10 donation is appreciated to help defray expenses.

Solon Springs: A Spring Expo takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Solon Springs Community Center on Business Highway 53 next to the Dairy Queen. The event features the top 50 prize winning quilts from Keepsake Quilting on the East Coast. Enjoy Kosta’s Gyros and other refreshments, great area craft vendors and a lot of fun. Duluth: Hartley Nature Center hosts a Buckthorn Workshop to inform residents about invasive, non-native buckthorn, which can be devastating to native plants, trees and wildlife habitat. The free session runs 10-11:30 a.m. at the nature center.

Duluth: Duluth Cinema will offer a special screening of “The Pirates! Band of Misfits” at 10:30 a.m. designed for families of special-needs children with autism or other challenges who cannot always attend regularly featured movies with their families. The showing is part of Marcus Theaters’ “Reel Movies for Real Needs” series. Regular matinee adult and child pricing applies. The cinema is located at 300 Harbor Drive in Canal Park.

Superior: The Town of Superior Volunteer Fire Department will hold their spring pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Town of Superior Town Hall, 4917 South Highway 35.

Superior: A rummage and pasty sale takes place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 5 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 820 Belknap St. A wide variety of household items will be available. Elliot’s pasties may be pre-ordered from the church at $3.50 each or two for $6 by calling (715) 392-4731 by April 29.

Duluth: The School of the Minnesota Ballet celebrates National Dance Week with Dance Day at the Depot from 1:30-3:30 p.m. in the Depot’s great hall. Upper-level students will demonstrate ballet and jazz technique and the whole audience can join in a fun social dance. Free and open to the public. The Depot is located at 506 W. Michigan St.

Duluth: A Film Series on Jewish and Muslim Youth will conclude with a screening of the film “Knowledge is the Beginning” 2-4:30 p.m. in Room 249 of Burns Wellness Commons at the College of St. Scholastica. A discussion about the film will be facilitated by Rabbi David Steinberg of Temple Israel and Khalil Sabra of Islamic Community of the Twin Ports. The event is free and open to the public.

Superior: Superior Council for the Arts Workshop events from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. will include hands-on word and picture collage making at the NERR building on Barker’s Island. Tips and tales will be available from Superior Council for the Arts collage artists to inspire your Postcards From Our Estuary creations about a great trip. The event includes a mini exhibition of original postcards by invited artists and writers and historical pictures of the St. Louis River Estuary in the 1800s. Participants meet at the Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR), Building 14, Marina Drive on Barkers Island (old Boathouse Restaurant). Admission is $10 for SCFTA members, $15 for non-members. Children accompanied by adult are $5. The cost includes instruction, materials and postcards entry fee. Bring scissors.

Amnicon: The 25th Annual Aurora Ouisconsin Outdoor Club smelt fry will take place from noon-4 p.m. at the A.O.O.C. clubhouse on Tri Lakes Road, between Lyman and Amnicon Lakes. Superior: A Cancer Prayer Support Group will meet from 2-3 p.m. at Darrow Road Wesleyan Church, 4020 S. Darrow Road. Current cancer patients, those in remission, and their caregivers are encouraged to attend. Superior: The National Day of Prayer will be held on the Douglas County Courthouse steps from 12-1 p.m.

Duluth: The Duluth Lions Club hosts their 55th annual Pancake Day from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Pioneer Hall at the DECC. Tickets are $6 in advance, $7 at the door for all the pancakes that you can eat along with sausage, orange juice or milk and coffee. Children under 5 eat free when accompanied by parents. Free parking is available. Proceeds help fund community programs for youth and people who are sight and hearing impaired.

Duluth: Veterans’ Memorial Hall announces the opening of its newest exhibit, “Desert Medics” created by the student interns of spring semester 2012. The opening will be at 5 p.m. in the great hall of the Depot, 506 W. Michigan St. Free and open to the public.
