The Northwood softball team battled a strong Shell Lake team and chilly weather Thursday evening as they fell to the Lakers 6-3.
“Quite the game tonight at Shell Lake,” said Northwood coach Beth Block. “We didn’t win, but we gave them a good run.”
Shell Lake improved to 5-0 overall with the win. Northwood drops to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in Central Lakeland Conference play.
All six of the Lakers’ runs Thursday were unearned, and one of Northwood’s three runs was unearned. Teagen Harings suffered the loss for the Evergreens, giving up five hits in seven innings while walking four and striking out six.
“It was so cold tonight, but Teagen still moved the ball around a lot,” Block said. “The combination of the two kept Shell Lake’s bats pretty calm. A few errors mixed with the few walks and hits, hurt us tonight.”
The Evergreens had only four hits in the game. The first was an RBI single from Harings that scored Northwood’s first run; and Lisa Featherly, Allison Fouks and Betsy Hall all followed with hits.
