The Superior City Council on Tuesday took action to keep a proposed aircraft manufacturing facility at the airport on the move.

The council approved plans to vacate North 46th Street at Hammond Avenue, a move that will allow Kestrel Aircraft Co. uninterrupted access to the Bong Airport once its assembly plant is built on city and county owned land adjacent to the airport.

The road closure, which won’t go into effect until Kestrel Aircraft purchases adjacent property in 2013, affects the curve in the road between the airport terminal and the airport hangars to the south.

The council also approved rezoning the site for development of Kestrel’s assembly plant. Previously zoned for suburban development, the zoning change allows for light manufacturing on the site of the planned plant.
