The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints completed an extensive renovation of the meetinghouse that serves the two local congregations and members in other congregations covering parts of northern, central and western Minnesota, northern Wisconsin and Thunder Bay, Canada.
To celebrate the completion of the Duluth meetinghouse, local Latter-day Saints are preparing an open house for the public April 28 with tours of the meetinghouse 2-4 p.m. People of all ages, faiths and backgrounds are welcome.
“We are excited to open the doors of this beautiful meetinghouse to the community,” says Bishop David Gore. “The open house will be an excellent opportunity for our friends and neighbors to see how we worship and how we implement our programs for adults, youth and children.”
The meetinghouse also houses the Family History Center, which is open to everyone and provides help and access to information regarding genealogy.
The meetinghouse is at 521 Upham Road, Duluth, offering many classrooms, a gymnasium and stage for cultural arts activities, kitchen facilities and a chapel for Sabbath worship.
The renovation expanded the size of the building and updated décor.
The 13 million member Church constructs or renovates many meetinghouses around the United States and in 16- countries and territories where the Church has a presence. These meetinghouses differ from Latter-day Saint temples, where marriages and other sacred ordinances are performed, uniting families for eternity.
Light refreshments will be served. There will be various display stations to answer any questions or provide additional information.
