Hazel V. (Dahl) Pedersen

Hazel V. (Dahl) Pedersen, 97, gracefully passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Golden Living Center - Court Manor in Ashland.

She was born on March 2, 1915, in Iron River, the daughter of Serine and Harold Dahl, she was the youngest of their five children. Hazel married Russell Pedersen on March 13, 1947, in Ashland and they resided on the Pedersen family farm in Oulu. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Iron River.

Hazel and Russell raised six children, all whom survive Hazel: Patricia Rickman of Freeland, Mich., Carol (Patrick) McDonough of Brule, Knute (Nancy) Pedersen of Superior, Maxine (Joe) Caskinette of Cook, Minn., Elaine Pedersen of Oulu and Lee (Cheryl) Pedersen of Oulu; Hazel is survived by eight grandchildren, Craig Rickman, Chad (Kathy) Rickman, Grant McDonough, Megan (Chad) Wilson, Knute Jr. (Kelly) Pedersen, Taylor Pedersen, Cody Pedersen and Kyle Pedersen; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell in 1982; her parents, three brothers, Adolph, Leonard and Edward; and one sister, Florence Buran.

Hazel was well known in the local community for her hand-crafted toys and stuffed animals, often donated for school fundraisers. She was an accomplished cook and guests always were made welcome with a fresh cup of coffee, homemade pie, cake or cookies.

During her final years, Hazel was provided compassionate and loving care by special caregivers, Bette, Misty, Jezz, Kelly, Sue and others to whom her family is eternally grateful.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, April 23, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Iron River with Pastor Kristina Jensen officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Following the services, interment will be held in the Hillcrest cemetery in Oulu.
