Three arrested on allegations shots fired on Barker's Island

Three Superior men were arrested for allegedly firing a handgun at two people parked in a Barker’s Island parking lot Wednesday night.

Three Superior men were arrested for allegedly firing a handgun at two people parked in a Barker’s Island parking lot Wednesday night. Superior police reports indicate that at least one shot was fired from the cab of a pickup driven by a 20-year-old man. No injuries were reported.

According to Superior Police reports:

Police responded to Barker’s Island at about 11 p.m. Wednesday night for a report of gunshots fired.

A man and woman said they had their vehicles parked near the SS Meteor and the band shell, something they do many nights.

They were talking when a red pickup truck pulled up, circled the lot and then sat for 15 minutes before leaving. The truck came back shortly after that, the two said, and the men inside asked what they were doing, then drove off. The man followed their truck to the Perkins parking lot to get their license plate number and returned to the Barker’s Island lot.

The truck also came back, flashed its lights at them and circled the lot, the two said. When it was back on the road to leave the island, it slowed as it neared the bridge, then stopped and at least one gunshot was fired. The truck then drove away.

Superior police officers caught up with the truck on the 400 block of Tower Avenue. There were four occupants in the vehicle, three men and one woman. A spent cartridge casing was found in the westbound lane of the road about 20 yards west of the bridge span. No additional casings or signs of bullet damage were found.

A pistol was found in the cab of the truck, as well as three knives, a box of arrow tips and two magazines of bullets.

All three men were arrested for endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon as a party to a crime; two were also arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and one for resisting/obstructing an officer.

The woman was not arrested or charged.
