Air Force Airman Joseph M. Carthel graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Carthel is the son of Diana Carthel of Wedgewood Creek Drive, Little Rock, Ark. He is a 2007 graduate of Rice Lake High School.
Air Force Reserve Master Sgt. Carl M. Bresette retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve in a ceremony held at the Travis Air Museum. He is the brother of Linda A. Nelson of Minneapolis, Peter M. Bresette of Canandaigua, N.Y., and Charles A. Bresette and Mark A. Bresette of Bayfield. His wife, Alice, is the daughter of Barbara J. Mahoney of Fairfield, Calif. Bresette graduated in 1975 from Bayfield High School and received an associate of science in 1989 from Solano Community College, Suisun City, Calif.
The Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center conducts a retirement ceremony for its chief of staff, Lt. Col. Michael Frenchick, on April 27. A decorated U.S. Army veteran of 24 years, Frenchick enlisted in 1988 and served as an infantryman before receiving his commission through officer candidate school. He subsequently served in variety of positions as an infantry officer, recruiting officer, instructor, assistant inspector general, and an intelligence analyst/officer. He served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. Frenchick earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting at the University of Wisconsin-Superior in 1984.
