Alexander"Alex" Anecki

Alexander "Alex" Anecki, 85, Superior, died on Sunday, April 15, 2012, in St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth, of pneumonia. Alex was a former resident of the Villa-Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born in Superior on Aug. 18, 1926, to Charles and Josephine (Szymanski) Anecki.

He married Margaret "Margie" Gella on June 16, 1951 and they celebrated 60 years of marriage.

He was employed as a carman/airman by the Great Northern, Burlington Northern Railroads for almost 40 years retiring in 1986.

Alex served his country in the United States Army during World War II, stationed in the Philippines and Japan.

He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, the Thomas F. Stein, VFW Post No. 1091 and the Thaddeus Kosciusko Society (Polish Club).

He was a member of the Anecki Brothers softball team. At one time there were nine Anecki boys who formed their own Anecki softball team.

Alex enjoyed being outdoors watching birds, hunting and planting a garden at his cabin in Cloverland. He was also well known for his woodcarving and was once featured on Venture North at his cabin for his woodcarving.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Charles, Ed, Ben, Tony, Walter, Chester and Bruno.

In addition to his wife Margie, Alex is survived by one daughter, Carol Brandt, Fargo, N.D.; a son, Michael (Trish) Anecki, Superior; two grandchildren, Kristy Brandt and Bryan Anecki; his brother, Leo (Mae) Anecki, Bradenton, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial on Thursday, April 19, in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Rev. James Tobolski as celebrant.

Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post No. 435.

Pallbearers will be five nephews, Jim, Ron, Bob, John and Don Dembroski and Jim Sislo.

Alex's family would like to thank the staff at Villa-Marina Health and Rehabiltation Center for their attentive care during his stay.
