Spartan track teams finish 2nd at Hayward invite

The Superior High School boys and girls track teams both finished second Thursday at the Hayward invitational.

Hayward won the girls team competition, while Ashland won for the boys.

Picking up first place finishes for the Superior girls were Raya Kosey in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes and long jump; Giselle Sziron in the 300 hurdles; and Leah Holmes in the 3,200. Holmes outpaced the second-place finisher by more than a minute, and Kosey had almost a 3-foot advantage of her next closest competitor in the long jump.

The Superior boys got a first place finish from Jacob Noonan in the 400 and picked up four relay wins. The Spartan boys swept the relays with Jaylon Brown, Anthony Valentine, Colton Lorenz and Kyle Johnson winning the 4x100; Alex Dzikonski, Valentine, Quevel Aiken and Blake Sharpe winning the 4x200; Carter Anderson, Evan Walpole, Bryan Wines and Noonan winning the 4x400; and Derek Copperud, McKenzie Schwarz, Joe Tenney and Robert McClarey winning the 4x800.
