Duluth: The series, Lost Shadows: Silent German Expressionist Cinema, debuts with the showing of “Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror,” at 7 p.m. today. The second film, “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari,” is at 2 p.m. Saturday and the final film, “Metropolis,” is 7 p.m. Saturday. All three films are shown in Room 249 of the Burns Wellness Center at the College of St. Scholastica. Free. Refreshments served.

Saturday

Poplar: Cub Scout Pack 212 AYCE hosts a pancake breakfast 8-11 a.m. at Northwestern Elementary School. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for children ages 5-12, and children younger than 5 are free.

Superior: The Eagles Auxiliary hosts a rummage and bake sale 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. followed by a card party from 2-4 p.m. at the Eagles Club, 1710 N. 12th St. Tables are available for the sale for $10 each or $5 each for members. If interested in a table, call the club. An all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet is held at the same time. The cost is $9 and includes a bloody Mary. Proceeds benefit local charities. The card party features games such as smear, cribbage, dice and/or bunco. The cost is $4 for adults, and includes lunch and prizes.

Superior: The Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center hosts a free program at 10 a.m. entitled ‘Military History Research Methods and Strategies’ with author and researcher Tom Culbert. Culbert’s program shows how to conduct research and using governmental and non-governmental resources to locate primary source documents.

Duluth: “Praying with Lior” is the next film presented in the series: Knowledge is the Beginning: A Film Series on Jewish and Muslim Youth, at the College of St. Scholastica. The showing runs 2-4:30 p.m. in Room 249 of Burns Wellness Center on campus. There will be a discussion about the film with facilitators Linda Eason and Andrea Gelb, of Temple Israel. Free.

Superior: Have fun and learn about people around the world at International Family Fun Day 3-6 p.m. in the Yellowjacket Union at UWS. Events include games, international children’s books, storytelling, Korean Pop dancing, and a drumming circle. Bring your own drum or we can provide one. Free.

Duluth: University of Minnesota Duluth Theatre students and faculty perform “The Deputy, Act IV” at 2 p.m. in the Rafters in the Kirby Student Center. A discussion follows the performance.

Monday

Superior: The Center Against Sexual and Domestic Abuse Inc. (CASDA) and the University of Wisconsin-Superior host a “Speak Out,” part of sexual assault awareness month. The event begins at the UWS’ Yellowjacket Union (Lot 2) with a barbecue, march and walk from 4 to 5 p.m. and a “speak out” 5-7 p.m. at the Douglas County Courthouse.

Brule: The annual meeting of the Waino Ever-Rest Cemetery begins at 6 p.m. at the Brule Town Hall for the election of officers and other cemetery business including discussion of the Memorial Day weekend ham dinner. Following, the Waino Pioneer Chapter meets for the election of officers and discussion of fundraising to preserve the historical building.

Superior: The Clef Music Society meets at 1 p.m. at the home of Anne Melcher, 16 Quechee St. Soloist Linda Eliason presents the program and accompanist Vivian Markley features children’s songs written by Aaron Copland and Irving Fine. Superior: Hollywood’s Heroes 2012 Film Series features “Twelve o’clock High” starring Gregory Peck at 1:30 p.m. in Pearl Harbor Theatre at the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center.

Superior: The St. Louis River Alliance hosts a presentation at 6:30 p.m. at the Lake Superior NERR on Barker’s Island about upcoming activities planned for the effort to attract nesting piping plover to this area.

Duluth: Mended Hearts meets at 6:30 p.m. in the Ontario Room at Essentia Health-St. Mary’s, 407 E. Third St. The program will be the first of six sessions of “Living Well with Chronic Conditions” such as diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, heart disease and chronic pain or anxiety. Free. Duluth: Religious Institutions’ Responses to the Holocaust begins at 4:30 p.m. in Weber Music Hall at UMD.

Duluth: Hartley Nature Center hosts its ninth annual Wine in the Woods benefit auction 6-9 p.m. The event includes live and silent auctions, hor d’oeuvres by Ledge Rock Grille and fine wines and beer provided by Shack Liquor with music by Clearwater Hot Club.
