Solon Springs wins big over Bayfield

Eagles improve to 2-1 with win over Trollers

The Solon Springs Eagles baseball team improved to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the Indianhead Conference with a 23-4 five-inning victory over the Bayfield Trollers Thursday evening in Solon Springs.

Brett Missinne started pitching for the Eagles with relief help for the final two innings from Nick Skaggs. The two allowed two hits and struck out 10 batters.

Bayfield pitchers struggled to throw strikes in its first game of the season as Solon Springs scored 19 runs in the third and fourth innings.

Kevin Zamzow led the Eagles at the plate with a double, single and three RBIs. Joey Androsky and Brett Missinne both had two hits and two RBIs, Luke Sheppard doubled and knocked in two runs and Phillip Larson picked up his first varsity hit.

“We did a good job of being patient at the plate,” SSHS coach Nate Ahlberg said. “They had some pitchers struggling on the mound, but we managed to hit some line drives when they were able to throw strikes.”

The Eagles are back in action at Hurley at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
