Elks, police raise awareness of drugs

Superior Elks 403 joined forces with Officer Bonnie Beste of the Superior Police Department to launch the beginning of the Elks Drug Awareness program.

With the help of Officer Beste, Lecturing Elk Cristine Crum and Elroy the Elk handed out literature and drug awareness items to

more than 200 kids, at the Douglas County Fish and Game show.

Kids played hoops to win water bottles, Frisbees, sunglasses and more, all donated by the national Elks Drug Awareness Program.

Superior has not had any kind of drug awareness program since DARE was discontinued at the schools because of budget cuts.

Crum the drug awareness chairman, is working with the police department to change that by attending events and working on getting some kind of drug awareness program back in Superior schools.

This kind of program is needed badly in our school system, and the Superior Elks and police department are working on it.
