Tuesday afternoon is the signature filing deadline for candidates running in the state recall elections. Gov. Walker says he doesn't object to some of the candidates lying about their political party.

The state Republican Party says protest or fake Democrats will be running in the governor, lieutenant governor and state senate recalls, in order to guarantee a Democratic primary in all the races. It's thought the GOP doesn't want a lot of motivated Democrats showing up on May 8 to vote in the likely gubernatorial primary and also voting that day in final elections for some of the other races. Gov. Walker contends he had nothing to do with his party's strategy, and claims running fake candidates gives the public what it wants.

Walker apparently doesn't speak for everyone in the state. The pro-recall group We are Wisconsin says some lawyers believe falsification of information under oath on a candidate's Declaration of Candidacy constitutes felony election fraud. The group says it has sent certified letters to the various potential fake candidates saying penalties can include a fine and a prison term.
