Solon Springs baseball team drops opener to Shell Lake
The Solon Springs Eagles baseball team opened its season with a 16-12 loss to the Shell Lake Lakers Tuesday night at the Village Baseball Field in Solon Springs.
Shell Lake (1-0) jumped on Solon Springs starting pitcher Tyler Long early as the first three batters of the game singled and then scored on a double. Overall, the Lakers scored five runs in the top of the first inning.
Long, who retired the side in order in the third inning, finished with six strikeouts.
Long also doubled twice, singled and knocked in two runs to lead Solon offensively.
Kevin Zamzow added three singles and scored three runs; and Cody Utyro singled, knocked in a run and reached base four times.
Also for the Eagles, freshmen Logan Long singled and scored a run and Ryan Johnson doubled. It was the first varsity game for both.
The Eagles are back in action at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Butternut.
