LETTER: Spruce up our waterfront

I use the Osaugie Trail to bike and walk, and I would like to enjoy the view even more.
That started to happen.
Why did it stop?
It appears to me it was our opportunity to make our city appealing while looking at one of our many assets. Has anyone driven to Ashland and seen what first impressions make going through town? Hmm, virtually a free park a few steps from the water, kids could fish, another appealing place to stop and all along the trail. If I had a say — and I guess I don’t — we should have a park like space from Barker’s Island to McDonald’s. Is someone afraid the railroad might have to clean up along the waterfront?
I am not looking for progress, just more of our oohs and ahhs for what we already have. Not everyone can play Billy goat but most of us can sit on a bench and look. I, for one, have seen enough willow, cattails and unruly grass when I drive around town.
