The Superior Senior High School Spartans routed Wisconsin Rapids 68-45 in the semifinals of the WIAA sectional basketball tournament in Marshfield. The Spartans improved to 19-1 and Wisconsin Rapids fell to 9-12. The Spartans were led by Al Olson, who scored 18 points, and Jim Eskolin, who added 16. (1976)
Tom Jubenville scored 10 points to lead the St. Francis Friars to a 28-19 win over St. Louis in the finals of the Knights of Columbus Basketball League tournament. Jeff Olson’s nine points was tops for St. Louis. The consolation title went to St. Anthony’s, a 43-37 winner in a clash with the Cathedral Knights. Kevin Lohman paced the winners with 19 points and Jeff Finckler scored 18 to lead the Knights. (1976)
