MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A clinical trial laboratory in Madison has been cited by federal agricultural officials for an accident that caused the death of a monkey.
A report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture' Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service says a monkey recently became entangled in a piece of play equipment at Covance Laboratories and died. The USDA says Covance has made changes to make sure a similar accident doesn't occur and will not be fined.
The State Journal reports Covance issued a statement which says it takes its ethical and regulatory responsibility for its research animals very seriously.
