MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The state Legislature is set to vote on a bill that would create a wolf hunt in Wisconsin.
Wolves in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin came off the federal endangered species list last year. The states are now free to manage the wolves as they see fit.
The bill measure would establish a hunting and trapping season that would run from mid-October through the end of February. The Department of Natural Resources would be allowed to limit licenses and award them to applicants who build up preference points.
Both the Assembly and Senate are scheduled to take up the measure during floor sessions Tuesday.
