Granville J. "Granny" Smith, 90, Gordon, died on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at his daughter's home in Superior. He was born Sept. 17, 1921, in Superior to Warren and Bertha (Beglinger) Smith.
Granville J. "Granny" Smith, 90, Gordon, died on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at his daughter's home in Superior. He was born Sept. 17, 1921, in Superior to Warren and Bertha (Beglinger) Smith.
He was employed as an electrician for the Superior Water Light and Power Company for 26 years, retiring in 1978.
Granny was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gordon, Wis. and former longtime member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Superior.
He was a Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Gordon American Legion Post 499.
He was an avid Packer and Brewers fan. He loved to fish, hunt and trap and taught his grandchildren how. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Granny is survived by five daughters, Bonnie (William) McCreary, Gordon, Liz Martinson, Superior, Patty (Roger) Liebaert, Superior, Mary (Michael) Smith-Johnson, Superior, Anne (Dennis) Smith-Flaherty, Gordon; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one nephew; 7 nieces; two sons-in-law, Jim Martinson, Mike Van Landschoot; special friends, Kim Johnston and family, Chris Russ and Terry and Jeff Collins.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jane; a daughter, Nancy Van Landschoot; a great-grandson, Michael Brown; a granddaughter, Kristen Johnson and his parents.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Thursday, March 8, at 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Memorial mass in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Rev. James Tobolski as celebrant.
Burial will be in the Gordon Cemetery, Gordon, Wis. at a later date.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Gordon Food Shelf or the Gordon American Legion Post 499.
