CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — Enbridge Inc. says its president and CEO Patrick Daniel will retire by the end of the year.

The pipeline and natural gas company on Monday said Al Monaco, head of gas pipelines and green energy, will take the role of company president effective immediately.

Daniel will maintain his role as CEO until he officially retires.

Daniel began his career at Enbridge three decades ago, while Monaco has spent over 30 years in the energy industry.

Chairman David Arledge says Daniel will leave Enbridge with the strongest five-year plan and forward outlook that they've ever had. Arledge says Monaco has demonstrated exceptional leadership capabilities across the range of Enbridge's businesses.

Enbridge is based in Calgary and operates Canada's largest oil pipeline.
